Statistical Observation on Neonates

Abstract
Statistical observation was performed on 2,022 cases of neonates which were seen at the Nursery, Seoul Natio. al University Hospital, during the past 2 years and 9 months from b Dec. 1972 to
Aug. 1975.
The results were as following:
1. The average sex ratio of male to female was 1.07 : 1.Among 2,022 neonates 10.5% were low birth weight C<2,50gm).
2. The mortality rate of neonates were 15. 3 per 1, 000 neonates. The causes of deaths in order of frequency were; 1Q Prematurity Q Respiratory disease 03 Congenital maiformation Birth injury.
3. The incidence of twin was 1 per 70 newborn infant.

4. Rate of growth and apgar score in neonates were as following;
Height ¢¥ 50.9cm (Male)
50.3cm (Female)
Head circumference 34. Scm (Male)
34.Ocm (Female)
Chest circumference 32.5cm (Male)
32.9cm (Female)
Apgar score 8.0 (Male)
7.9 (Female)
5. Gestational period of the infants were as following;
Under 38 weeks; 258 (12.8%) Under 42 weeks; 1, 590 (78.6%) Above 42 weeks; 174 (8.6%)
6. The frequency of type of delivery in the newborn were as following;
Spontaneous delivery; 783 (38.72%) Vacuum extracted delivery, 659 (32.59%) Forcep delivery; 108(5.54%) Ceserean section; 401 (19.83%) Breech delivery; 71 (3.52%)
7. Neonatal jaundice was seen in 1,279 (63.5%).
8. The incidence of congenital malformations was 119 (5.9%).
The incidence of congenital malformations in male was 5.82%, and was 5.94% in female.
9. The incidence of congenital malformations was higher in low birth weight group and was 13.19%, but was not related to the age or parity of mother.
10. Among the 116 cases of congenital malformations, the multiple malformations were seen in 9 cases (7.5695)
11. Incidence and type of anomalies were shown in Table 9.
12. There were 48 cases of minor malformations, and 73 cases of major malformations.
